Hundreds of families got into the festive spirit in Glasgow today as the Coca Cola Christmas truck rolled into the city. Children and parents queued in the freezing cold at Silverburn Shopping Centre to catch a glimpse of the iconic vehicle, which has become a festive tradition since it first appeared on our screens for the memorable ‘Holidays are Coming’ adverts 26 years ago. Families were given the chance to have their photo taken with the Coca Cola branded truck, with plenty of activities available to keep kids busy in the lines of queues.

Punters were also given free samples of the sugar free version of the popular soft drink upon entry to the free event.

Today was the first date on the firm’s UK Christmas tour, with the huge red truck wheeling into 40 destinations throughout the country in the run up to Christmas. Scots will be able to see the Christmas truck until 8pm this evening before it reopens for day two tomorrow between 11am and 8pm. The vehicle will then head south to Newcastle and Leeds, which are so far the only two confirmed cities on the tour.

Coca Cola said that it will announce more UK dates in the coming weeks, with Scots hoping that it will travel north once again in the run up to the big day.

The popular big red truck is attended by huge crowds throughout the festive season with families gathering to grab a free sample of juice and a picture every Christmas. Coca-Cola says “festive joy and inclusion” and warm moments of connection are at the heart of its Real Magic campaign. Louise Maugest, Marketing Director at Coca-Cola Great Britain, said: “Coca-Cola has always been synonymous with Christmas, particularly the iconic Truck Tour.

“With the magic of Christmas needed now more than ever, we thought it was only right that we bring it back this year, safely and securely.
